Sovereignty

I support the sovereignty of the state of Missouri, as outlined in the US Constitution, the Missouri Constitution, and the Congressional Act of Admission that created the state of Missouri.

Let me quote you a piece from each of these documents so you understand what I mean.

“The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”
– 9th Amendment, US Constitution

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
– 10th Amendment, US Constitution

“That all political power is vested in and derived from the people; that all government of right originates from the people, is founded upon their will only, and is instituted solely for the good of the whole.”
– Article 1, Section 1 of the Missouri Constitution Bill of Rights

“That the people of this state have the inherent, sole and exclusive right to regulate the internal government and police thereof, and to alter and abolish their constitution and form of government whenever they may deem it necessary to their safety and happiness, provided such change be not repugnant to the Constitution of the United States.”
– Aricle 1, Section 3 of the Missouri Constitution Bill of Rights

“That Missouri is a free and independent state, subject only to the Constitution of the United States; that all proposed amendments to the Constitution of the United States qualifying or affecting the individual liberties of the people or which in any wise may impair the right of local self-government belonging to the people of this state, should be submitted to conventions of the people.”
– Article 1, Section 4 of the Missouri Constitution Bill of Rights

“An Act to Authorize the People of Missouri Territory to Form a Constitution and State Government, and for the Admission of Such State into the Union on an Equal Footing with the Original States…”
– Congressional Act of Admission for the state of Missouri

This all seems very clear to me. The 9th and 10th Amendments to the US Constitution clearly say that unless a power is expressly granted to the federal government, it is retained by the states or the people. The Missouri Constitution very clearly states that we are a free and independent state, and when Congress authorized the Missouri Territory to form a new state, it very explicitly stated that the new state would have all the same rights and privileges as the original 13 colonies. It seems to me that there are a lot of people in Washington DC that don’t understand that. If elected to Congress, the first question I’m going to ask about every piece of legislation is “Where does the Constitution grant the federal government the power to do this?” If that question cannot be answered, I will vote no.

STATEWIDE PINK SLIP RALLY!

HOSTED BY: THE SULLIVAN 9/12 GROUP

DATE: AUGUST 30, 2009 – PROGRAM BEGINS @ 1PM

WHERE: SULLIVAN FAIRGROUNDS, SULLIVAN, MO

Take Interstate 44 west or east to exit 225. Take south outer service road west to Hwy D turn right on Progress Drive. Follow Progress Drive into Fairgrounds. Look for parking signs and attendants on the left.

We would like to invite all Missouri groups, coalitions and organizations as well as all citizens who are interested in responsible government and protecting the Constitution of the United States of America.

Many of us grew out of the very first Tea Party group in St. Louis as grass roots organizations while others have been advocating our messages much longer. But in the end our mission is one of solidarity.

While Congress has been on recess there have been many town hall meetings , individual events, gatherings and rallies. We would like to bring together as many representatives from as many groups as possible as one BIG RALLY to break the news media portrayal of us as “angry mobsters.”

Our program will include music, speakers, and a couple of “light hearted” surprises. We invite all groups who wish to have a booth or a speaker to please go to www.usguardiansoffreedom.com and leave your information on the “Contact Us” page. You are also welcome to bring a picnic basket and cooler, or you may also go to one of the many fast food restaurants on the outer roads at the exit. There will also be concessions available at the fairgrounds as well.

We want this to be a PATRIOTIC, UPLIFTING AND MOTIVATING event! Bring your lawn chairs, canopies, cameras and flags and join us in helping to make OUR MISSOURI RALLY the “Making of a Memory!”

Don’t forget this is a PINK SLIP PETITION RALLY! There will be a number of petitions on a variety of Bills that will be waiting for the “DC” crowd when they return! We are putting our elected officials on notice that if they are not going to listen to the will of the people and respect the Constitution of the United States then they will be receiving their PINK SLIP!
